Obstacle Sports are the largest and fastest growing mass participant sports world wide. These include Obstacle Course Racing, Adventure Racing, Obstacle Competitions and Obstacle Racing (Ninja Warrior type events.) Modern competitions started in the 1980s and have seen explosive growth since 2006. Competitor numbers in 2015 exceed running (cross country, 5K, 10K, ½ marathon, marathon) and all triathlon type distances combined.
Obstacle Course Racing is also known as Obstacle Racing and in the United States as Mud Runs as well. Closely related sports include Military Pentathlon, Adventure Racing, Mountain Running, Steeple Chase, Cross Country Running, Fell Running, Obstacle Courses, Orienteering and the television shows American Ninja Warrior and Sasuke.
